This was by way of an experiment on the new plot. Potatoes were planted in holes in the Mypex weed control fabric. Blight in early July necessitated lifting early and this, together with the wide spacing of the plants, caused a relatively small yield but, in all other ways the experiment was a great success - no fertilizer save the muck, no earthing up, no weeds during or after lifting, one fork under to lift the roots, no greening of potatoes, minimal soil disturbance.
